Located about 70 km from Bengaluru, Tumkur is often termed its twin city. The twin city has similar garbage problems to Bengaluru.

Now, the Civic agencies in Tumkur have found a unique way of dealing with waste.

They are using lakes, wells and even highways to dump rubbish. Major wetlands of Tumkur and open spaces in the surrounding areas are being used as garbage dumps. The city has large numbers of old community wells and at least 10 wells in Tumkur are being used as garbage dumps.
