Sibi Arasu

News Minute, Chennai

An independent journalist based in Chennai. He reports on issues related to water sustainability, environment and the rise of the urban sprawl. He has completed his Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism from the Asian College of Journalism and his Masters in Cultural Studies from the Goldsmiths College, University of London. His work has been published in the BBC, The Wire, Scroll.in, Caravan Magazine, Himal, The Hindu and the environmental news site Mongabay among others. K. Rajendran

Senior News Editor, Kairali TV, Thiruvanathapuram

K Rajendran hails from Palakkad District of Kerala. He is currently working in Kairali TV/People TV as senior news editor. He has received several awards for his work, including Best TV Reporter Award by Government of Kerala, and, V K Madhavankutty Memorial Award for best report on social issues. He was a Panos South Asia Climate Change Fellow, CSE Media Fellow, and a UNDP Media Fellow. K Rajendran has directed numerous social documentaries and has written several books. He has been reporting on various regional, national and international events since 2000.

Athar Parvaiz

Independent Journalist

An independent journalist based in Srinagar-Kashmir, with an experience of more than 14 years. He has extensively written on environmental issues and climate change. His stories appear in Thomson Reuters, Associated Press, Inter Press Service, thethirdpole.net, India Climate Dialogue, Scidev.net, Scroll, rediff.com etc. Since January 2015, Athar Parvaiz has been editing an environmental website ecokashmir.com. His write-ups appear in local Kashmir newspapers including Rising Kashmir, Kashmir Life and Kashmir Observer.

Skand V. Dhar

Skand has been covering finance and developmental issues for print and online media for almost a decade. He works with the National Bureau of Rajasthan Patrika, a Hindi daily. He has received several awards and fellowships from the National Press Foundation, USA, National Foundation for India, Panos South Asia, The Union, CRY, Reach and Ministry of culture, GoI. Recently, the GoI awarded him “Chaudhary Charan Singh Award for excellence in Journalism in Agriculture 2016”. Currently, he is working on his first book titled “100 years of Bidi Industry in Madhya Pradesh”.

Our Fellows will attend a 2-day orientation cum local field trip in Bangalore before travelling to sites in the Western Ghats, Karnataka, Tamilnadu, Kerala and the Sikkim/Darjeeling Himalayas for their work.

 

They will be studying urban systems in renewable energy and solid waste management; ecosystems, biodiversity and livelihoods as well as adaptation to climate change in watershed and arid regions.

FEJI focuses on the training of media, conducting study tours and organizing dialogues between administrative governance, media and various concerned bodies on environment and development.

 

We are now expanding into collaborations with journalism colleges, offering journalism modules, and offering students the opportunity to pursue research for their thesis under the FEJI aegis.

 

FEJI is collaborating with like-minded organizations, holding platforms of interactive dialogues with the media, undertaking media-related research and studies from the field. We are also planning to undertake editorial work on environment and development for public dissemination.
